Sculpting Animals in Relief
Step into the timeless art of relief sculpture and shape the spirit of an animal in clay under the expert guidance of the artist Sheila Verseck.
Sculpting Animals in Relief
Discover the expressive power of relief sculpture in this engaging, hands-on clay workshop. Participants will create a relief sculpture of an animal of their choice, working in a medium that beautifully balances the qualities of two-dimensional drawing and three-dimensional sculpture. Relief offers a unique way to suggest depth, movement, and character while remaining grounded in a flat surface.
Under the guidance of experienced sculptor Sheila Versack, you will be introduced to the essential techniques of relief modeling, including building and reducing form, controlling depth, and creating strong visual contrast. The workshop also covers fundamental principles of composition, as well as the anatomy and proportions of the animal you choose.
Upon completion, clay sculptures can be preserved through firing at a recommended ceramic studio outside the Berlin Sculpture Atelier, or through molding and casting in our studio at an additional cost. Learn more about our Mold-Making & Casting courses.
Suitable for beginners and experienced artists alike, this workshop offers a supportive environment to deepen your sculptural skills and bring an animal form to life in clay.
