Evening Sculpture Course: Female Torso in Clay from a Life Model

Join our new 6-week evening course on sculpting a female torso from a life model, led by the academically trained sculptor Ekaterina Kovalenko.

Torso sculpting is an exciting genre of figurative sculpture that offers a unique opportunity for an in-depth study of the human form and its aesthetic qualities. Anatomically speaking, the torso comprises the core of the human body, consisting of two major masses: the pelvis and rib cage, connected by the spinal column. The positioning of these structures relative to one another determines the overall gesture of a figure. Therefore, a close study of the torso and its proportions is a crucial step in mastering figurative sculpture.

Throughout the course, participants will engage in hands-on sculpting sessions, guided by Ekaterina's academic expertise and keen eye for detail. From understanding the underlying structures to capturing subtle nuances, students will cultivate a profound appreciation for the human body and refine their sculpting techniques.

Thanks to the small-group format and personalized teaching instructions, the course is suitable for both beginners and those with prior sculpting experience.

At the end of the course, the resulting portrait sculpture may be fired at an extra cost outside of class. Alternatively, the participants may choose to join the additional Mold-Making & Casting Course, where they will learn the techniques of rubber molding and cast their projects in a durable material.
